Questions
WHY CANT I JUST FREEZE ANY JAR? TOP You should never freeze or microwave any glass that is not made specifically for temperature resistance and doing so increases the stress on the glass. In fact it has been shown that freezing “regular” glass can leave behind tiny/microscopic fragments/splinters in the food, if in fact it didn’t shatter completely.
The Tiny Tastebuds Jar is specifically made for use in the freezer, microwave, regular oven & dishwasher. It is temperature resistant glass that will not shatter (if it were to break it would crack into large pieces).
WHY IS THE TINY TASTEBUDS GLASS SO DIFFERENT? TOP The Tiny Tastebuds jar is hand made from borosilicate glass. The recipe to make this type of glass is a unique process totally different to regular glass. Once the glass has been made and blown it is then "annealed" (baked) which gives it its durability and temperature resistant qualities. This type of glass is used over a long period of time and not disposed of often (this type of glass was first invented for the NASA spaceships windows). It is not used in one off food packaging as is regular glass, so should be viewed as a long term investment, much like good quality saucepans. OK, SO ASIDE FROM FREEZING SAFELY, WHAT OTHER BENEFITS ARE THERE OVER JUST USING OTHER JARS? TOP Most jars including current baby food jars are just "twist top" not screw on, so are only ever temporarily in place. They have only been designed to be used the once so are never secure. Also they leak profusely if on their side or upside down plus in some instances the lid actually comes off completely. The Tiny Tastebuds Jar lid will stay in place until you take it off. We have returned to the way jar lids were once made, where corners werent cut to save a dollar and lids screwed on completely. The only item that may leak if the jar is stored on its side or upside down is water or water type consistencies.
Most jars including baby food jars are not airtight - the food inside is most likely to get freezer burn.
Baby food jars are 4.5cm wide which as most parents will attest is far too narrow to fill and feed from and because the jars are not straight sided the food gets stuck around the rim and around the bottom, also making them hard to clean plus over time the lid rusts or stains from the food. The Tiny Tastebuds Jar is 6.5cm wide which is enough for a dessert spoon to easily fit, so filling them is a breeze plus they are straight sided so you can get every last spoonful of food out easily, of course this also makes washing up a breeze and you will never have to worry about the lid rusting. IS THERE LEAD IN GLASS? TOP Yes, most glass including current baby food jars contains lead.
The Tiny Tastebuds Jar is 100% lead free. I HAVE HEARD THERE IS BPA IN BABY FOOD JARS LIDS, IS THIS TRUE? TOP Yes, most jars lids are lined with plastic which leaks BPA into the jars contents. A recent study concluded that the food contained in baby food jars had between 2% - 10% BPA. Some lids have no plastic lining, however they are usually made from aluminium which has its own proven hazards.
The Tiny Tastebuds Jar inner contact lid is unlined and top quality 304 food grade stainless steel. It may be a little harder to screw on, however we thought this small inconvenience far out weighed using any plastic on our product. ASIDE FROM FREEZING AND HEATING WHAT ELSE CAN I USE MY JARS FOR? TOP The Tiny Tastebuds jar is great for storing food in the fridge or snacks when out and about. Why not make extra cereal in the morning, pop the extra in a jar and pop it into the fridge and serve it after dinner as a treat. Check our recipes page for the yummy fruit cereal recipe (no sugar or chemicals). Great for storing dinner leftovers, so if you have made too much you can pop some in a jar into the fridge for tomorrow. You can also use the Tiny Tastebuds jar for peace of mind during any babysitting outings. You can prepare a meal or grab one from the freezer and simply drop off the jar with your child. You wont have to worry about what your child is eating and the babysitter or family member will be grateful at not having to worry about what to make, plus they wont have any dishes to clean up! The Tiny Tastebuds jar makes carrying snacks a breeze too, as they will stay fresh and whole. No more stale rusks or biscuits, no more messy handbag! Plus you can carry snacks for your baby right through to toddler age. You could carry rusks, sultanas, sliced apple, green sugar peas (these are great as they are cheap, entertaining and very healthy), cheese fingers, baby rice crackers, baby dried apple & pear pieces. WHY ARE THE TINY TASTEBUDS JARS HAND MADE? TOP Our jars are all hand made. This allowed us to offer the screw top lid in this type of glass. This is a unique patent pending design not currently manufactured anywhere else in the world. Other companies offer borosilicate products to store food, however they all have plastic lids. Tiny Tastebuds is committed to offering a totally plastic free product. Each hand made Tiny Tastebuds jar is a one of a kind, an individual, just like the precious angels we lovingly nurture, protect & guide through life. It was the search for something natural & safe for my own son's food (an alternative to the insidious icecube tray monopoly!) that inspired this journey. DO YOU DELIVER OVERSEAS? TOP Yes! We have already shipped to Canada, USA, Thailand & UK. Please see our delivery page for full costs details. |
